The Live Earth tree is a new project by MSN UK running in conjunction with the Live Earth concerts to promote green, environmentally friendly activities.

From the beginning of July You will be invited to draw a leaf on your screen using the special tools provided and to make a pledge to do something green. Your leaf will then be placed on the tree with the other members of the public and the tree will grow leaf by leaf as more people make pledges.

You will be able to navigate around the tree and the tree can then be searched and filtered to show the pledges made by name, age country and type of pledge. The tree will become a graphical representation of the charitable activities of a global network and a way of visualising societies efforts to protect the environment.

The tree will be availible to make pledges from the beginning of July.

The Live Earth Tree is ready!

The tree is finally ready! To get involved with the campaign visit http://www.liveearthtree.com draw your leaf and make your pledge!

Each leaf on the tree represents individuals pledges to help save the planet and you can be as creative as you like.

As more leaves are added the tree will grow from a sapling into a full tree and when there are more leaves than can be shown on the tree, a representative snapshot of the database will be displayed.

So show the world you care and make your pledge now!

Test site up for public viewing

Good news, the test site is up for public viewing!

This is the first example of data modelling, allowing us to visualise the (dummy) pledge database graphically.

The leaves shown are an average of the overall database and the tree is proportionally accurate so we can represent millions of pledge leaves at once without displaying them all. This means denser areas of the tree symbolize more data in each category.

Older leaves will appear closer to the trunk whereas newer leaves will appear towards the edge of the tree signifying new growth.

You can click on a branch to zoom in and show more data on it and snapshots on the top left of the screen will show you where you are focused. Although it’s not working properly at the moment, you will be able to select a snapshot of that tree and return to it.

For example " I pleadge to unplug my mobile phone charger after i have finished using it" or " I Pledge to not run the tap when brushing my teeth".

Hi there I live in Florida and here I see a lot of problems ,tearing up wet lands to build expensive homes,destroying what little land there is for the animals ,it is terribly sad .I as a home owner here have empty property around us ,we have hawks nesting,in the season here ,we have all sorts of animals I just hope they do not build on this land ,we take photos of all the animals that are here and send them into local papers ,hopeing that one will be a rare species so they cannot build on the land .We can but hope.
We help the inviroment ,buy planting Florida friendly plants and trees .I would love to be a member of Live Earth ,this is all we have left .Mariaelena
